Employee Assistance Programs (EAP) are offered to employees of city, county, state, and federal agencies and private companies. These programs include mental health counseling at no cost to you and are totally anonymous. Your employer and co-workers are given no information that you contacted your EAP provider or have seen a therapist.
I work for three EAP providers: Deer Oaks, Magellan, & Ceridian. I provide counseling to law enforcement officers, nurses and physicians, school teachers, city and county administrators, U.S. Postal and Forest Service personnel, and employees of area mines. I also make presentations on workplace bullying, effective communication, and harassment. I also work with first responders who have been exposed to accidental death, suicides, and severe injury.
My approach with EAP clients is to get the heart of the problem quickly and to come up with practical solutions. Our time is limited, so helping this client express their emotions openly and completely is at the top of my list. Then we work on realistic solutions, whether it is in the workplace and in their personal life. I understand how organizations and agencies work. I also know what challenges are faced by first responders, doctors, nurses, law enforcement, teachers, and school counselors. The bottom line: Our work and our personal lives are intertwined and I help clients sort though their options and come up with solutions.
Most often, EAP programs allow for 2 - 6 free sessions, with additional sessions available. Please see your Human Resources Department's EAP announcements for more information. [ Find out about
