I have worked with veterans of the United States military for five years, including men and women who have served in the Vietnam, Korea, Iraq, Afghanistan, and Somalia conflicts. I have also worked with veterans stationed in the United States and Western Europe.
I am credentialed as a TriCare provider and as a provider with the New Mexico VA Health Care System - Albuquerque, NM, and the Southern Arizona VA Health Care System - Tucson, AZ. As a veteran registered with either of these facilities, you can receive mental health counseling in Silver City, NM and avoid traveling long distances. Contact Southwest Counseling on how you can receive your therapy locally.
Working with veterans is a privilege. Our work often focuses on PTSD due to the extreme and unique experiences of being exposed to combat, the loss of trusted friends and comrades, serious physical injury, and long absences from family and the familiar. To help, I use a technique of therapy used successfully with trauma called EMDR, along with helping veterans understand and accept their experiences. Acceptance is the key word here - accepting the good, the bad, and the ugly of military training, deployment, conflicts, and re-entry to civilian life. I also work with the spouses of veterans to help bridge the gap between their experiences and their partner's.
I also offer Small-Group Therapy for Combat Veterans. Please contact me for more information on this group and your participation. [ Find out about
